Foreign Exchange in the UK questions?
ADSENSE
I will be a sophomore 08-09 and am going to apply to be a foreign exchange student for junior year.
I am planning to apply with YFU because they offer UK but does anyone know whether this would be a bad program or have any bad (or good!) experiences with it?
Also when should I apply. It says you have to know your teachers for 6 months before they can do your recommendations so I assume I’d send in my application in February?
It tells me to write a letter 500 words or more but I don’t know how to really start it.
I’ve also been trying to figure things out about exchange in general like: should I buy school supplies before I get there? will the host family talk to me before I go? when I get there will the family take me to sign up for classes? how do I make sure that the classes there will still let me qualify in the u.s. for graduation?
In general how are schools in the UK different than America?
I know I have a lot of questions but an answer is well rewarded =].
Talk to your school guidance counselor they would know all the answers or at least be able to get you the answers. The only difference I know about for the schools is that in the U.K. most of the schools have uniforms for the students to wear even it what the U.S. systems call public schools. The essay should tell why you want to be in the program and how you can benefit from the experience, you might want to include a sentence or two about what you hope your host family will gain from you being there. Good Luck.
