What if I owe money to a bank account abroad?

living in South Africa. I opened a bank account UK, where I lived in 2006. Due to an emergency that I had to go home. I think when I went i was 40 pounds. Since then I have not checked my account. My question is / are: Have you closed the account at present, no activity since 2006? Is the amount that had to have increased due to fines or bank charges? Can I sue on such a small amount? I know there is huge amount, however, because the money is still owing money – so big that the debt! Now I'm in South Africa – the type of change is outrageous! Id end up paying much more than 40 pounds. I have fear of the phone and ask what is happening because I am just making no money to pay now.
If you never return to the United Kingdom in particular, to live then ignore it. If there is courage and email them 40 pounds is approximately 430 rand.
